09 Jul Rabbi Hillel Skolnik’s Torah Spark for Parashat Pinchas 5775
This Shabbat we read Parashat Pinchas, one of my favorites. It is in this week’s parasha that we find almost all the special maftir sections that we read during the holiday cycle of the Jewish calendar year. For a Torah reader, this is a dream come true because much of the parasha is already learned. But for all of us, just reading about the High Holidays, about Pesach, Shavuot and Sukkot – especially at this time of year when we are in a relatively dry time of year when it comes to Jewish holidays – reminds us that although those are the “special” days of the year, every day is one to be cherished. Even though no special sacrifice was offered to commemorate every single day, we should always strive to enjoy life as if it is the most special day of the year.
