Tikkun Leil Shavuot – Evening of Learning to Celebrate Shavuot – 6/11

Tikkun Leil Shavuot – Evening of Learning to Celebrate Shavuot – 6/11

Join us for an evening of learning and ice cream(!!) as we welcome the holiday of Shavuot and celebrate the anniversary of the Israelites getting the Ten Commandments at Month Sinai.

Saturday, June 11 at 7:00 PM

On behalf of the lay and professional leadership of the Southwest Orlando Jewish Congregation, it’s our honor and pleasure to wish you both Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach this weekend, as we celebrate Shabbat with Matthew Bechor’s Bar Mitzvah that then leads us directly into the celebration of the festival of Shavuot. It was on this day, thousands of years ago, that the Israelites experienced the revelation at Mount Sinai and it was in ancient times, on the holiday of Shavuot, that their descendants brought their first fruits to the Temple in Jerusalem.

As has long been our practice, we will celebrate Shavuot together in a couple of ways. Of course we will have services on both days of Shavuot – Sunday and Monday mornings – with the recitation of Yizkor being included on the second day. We will also have our annual Tikkun Leil Shavuot, our evening of learning together on Saturday evening, the 11th at 7 pm.

We are thrilled that Jeff Fischer, Robyn Remick, Edward Bromberg and Rabbi Skolnik will be leading our learning this year about such fascinating topics including, Who is the Messiah, Breishit – Jewish Creation of the Super Hero Universes, The Jewish Origins of Fish and Chips and other interesting Jewish Culinary Tidbits and more. Rabbi Skolnik will also lead a special kids learning session at the start of the evening. And of course, as is our practice, we will enjoy ice cream together.

So please join us for this special weekend. Here is the schedule in its entirety for your convenience:

Friday Evening – June 10 – Services at 7:30 PM
Shababt Morning – June 11 – Matthew Bechor’s Bar Mitzvah – Services at 9:30 AM
Saturday Evening – June 11 – Tikkun Leil Shavuot – beginning at 7 PM
Sunday Morning – June 12 – First Day of Shavuot – Services at 9:30 AM
Monday Morning – June 13 – Second Day of Shavuot – Services at 9:30 AM – Yizkor Included

We wish you all a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach,

Your Family here at SOJC
