Rabbi Hillel Skolnik’s Torah Spark for Pinchas 5776

Rabbi Hillel Skolnik’s Torah Spark for Pinchas 5776

This Shabbat we read from Parashat Pinchas which includes important details on how the Jewish holidays are to be celebrated. In other parts of the Torah we learn about special rituals for different holidays but this list in particular mentions the special sacrifices that were to be offered. Included in this list are Shabbat, Rosh Chodesh, Passover, Shavuot, Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot (including all seven days), and Shmini Atzeret. What we notice is that the sacrifices are similar but not exactly the same from holiday to holiday reminding us that each time we celebrate, we are celebrating different things and our celebrations should vary. Each day we are blessed to experience on Earth is different and while our values and beliefs remain the same, each day must be appreciated as different than the day before.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Hillel Skolnik
