ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL
SOJC is proud to have been the sponsoring beneficiary for a Boy Scout Eagle Project to create a Holocaust Memorial for our synagogue and community. The memorial’s physical structure is a mural consisting of corked-backed tiles printed with images, survivor stories and QR codes. The QR codes allow the viewer by smart phone to access more about the stories. The tiles are connected by metal binder-rings and suspended from eyehooks on a top wooden bar and secured in place on the bottom bar. The mural is easily mobile and able to be displayed in different locations, so that the memorial can be shared by many groups.
It may be re-printed and replicated in whole by any interested not-for-profit organizations or for individuals who would like a story for themselves. Its finished size is 4 feet high by 8 feet wide and it is comprised of 288 photographic cork-backed tiles. The stories recounted on the tiles were primarily taken from interviews with survivors and family members. The mural can be added to as more stories come forward to be told. Please contact SOJC for more information about using, reprinting or adding to the memorial.
